AMATEUR RADIO
VHF-UHF

Ham radio is very important for emergency communications and for weather spotting.  Mainly useful for the radio hobbyist  to talk  and meet other people around the  world and experiment with radios and antennas.  For more info for beginners view this page at ARRL

Here is the Kansas Amateur Repeater Council they have the up to date repeater listings.

Missouri Amateur Repeater Council

2 meters ham radio is 144-148Mhz
EMPORIA (K0HAM) EARS [Emporia Amateur Radio Society]
 146.985 - repeater
EMPORIA K0HAM SUNFLOWER INTERLINK REPEATER  443.975+  pl tone 131.8

146.520 National Simplex , also the nightly ragchew  frequency for the (not EARS related) group from  Emporia to Topeka from 7pm to 10pm every night.

other popluar simplex frequencies are:  146.415, 146.490, 146.565
146.580

147.540 KC0LDT EMPORIA ECHOLINK simplex link station with a node #30541.  I talk around the World while portable with the use of Echolink, that goes through the internet to connect to other stations on the computer, on other radio link systems, and Echolinked repeaters.  This link is open to others that are courtious and who follows the rules.  My Echolink is a part time station.

Here is some courtesy beeps for Echolink:  repeater beep1,   beep2,   beep3, beep4, beep5, beep6, beep7beep8, Railroad Chirping Beep    if you have some please email them to me.  I love to have more to choose from.

10 meters ham radio is 28Mhz to 29.7Mhz and Phone(voice) is from 28.3 to 29.7 and  National FM simplex is 29.6Mhz
most 10m  FM repeaters are on 29.62, 29.68,  29.66, 29.64

The best time to monitor 10 meters is during the winter as the conditions causes the band to "open up" and the "skip" rolls in from thousands of miles, same as the 11meter (CB) band.

6 meters is from 50-54mhz  and  national  FM simplex is 52.525.  Monitor 6m when the solar activity increases as solar activity causes the signals to propagate up to thousands of miles, the same with 10m or lower frequencies in the HF and Shortwave bands.

1.25 meters band is from 222-225Mhz.  While not as popular as 2m , 6m, 10m is still in use in some areas.  223.5 is the FM simplex.
